The F-Word?
Wednesday, May, 21, 2008
At skirt!, it's Feminism. Even women tiptoe around this loaded term. But guess what? The Encyclopedia defines Feminism as: The belief in social, economic, and political equality among the sexes. Radical? Hardly. Angry? Not so much. Notice there's no mention of bras, legs (shaved or not), or even Birkenstocks. Equality, after all, isn't a radical concept. If you've picked up the May issue, you've probably noticed our "Feminists Wanted" headline (page 26) where we spell out our upcoming F-word contest. Send us your response to the phrase "I am a feminist because...." in 50 words or less. We'll feature the women with the five best answers in the July issue of skirt!. So get writing and tell me what makes you a feminist. I can't wait to hear what you have to say.
