THE BEST DAY EVER!

Ok, so I know that I use the phrase "best day ever" way too much, but I really have loads of fabulous days.

Today, I found out that the 6-month, follow-up PET scan that I had done last week was clear.  I'm still cancer-free!

And it doesn't feel any less triumphant today than it did when I got the results of my first clear PET scan, back in September 2008.

It seems like, whenever things start to go downhill in your life, someone will inevitably say, "Well, at least you have your health."  And you roll your eyes and sigh and continue to bemoan the horribleness of your being.  But, if you are healthy, please take a small moment today, and every day, to appreciate what that means.  We neglect our bodies pretty much every day until we get sick, which is usually the result of neglect: poor food choices, lack of sleep, excessive amounts of stress, etc.  Then we get mad at ourselves for getting sick in the first place.

But, our bodies, for the most part, do exactly what they're supposed to every millisecond of every day for our entire lives, without asking our permission.  Our bodies don't consult focus groups or analyze statistics or create SWOT analyses for their processes.  They just do their jobs every day without asking for any appreciation or recognition.  I can't detail all the amazing things that our bodies do, because that would be a very large blog all by itself.  If you really want to be dazzled, visit Didyouknow.org for fast facts about the human body; trust me, you will definitely be dazzled.

So, while it might sound selfish and arrogant, what with the terrible state of the world and the economy, maybe it will make your day just a little bit brighter knowing that at least one more cancer survivor is still surviving, and loving every minute of it.  And if you've had a really, really crap day, then smile and appreciate that you have the ability to smile, because your body is awesome and you have your health.

Who knows- maybe if you appreciate your health more often, your body will repay you by being healthier?

While I don't have time to write anything else right now, I had to share that with all of you wonderful Skirt!ers, who have been with me from my pre-chemo days.  And I promise that I am working on a "Sarah's Life Update" blog.  I'm writing it in OneNote, (which is one my favorite things that Microsoft has ever come up with), and it gets a little longer every few days.

Hope it's a wonderful evening in Skirt!land for all of you!

HOORAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!

Sarah, that is amazing and fantastic news!!! CANCER FREEEEEE!!! So many families wish they could declare those same beautiful words. It has been a privilege to share in your journey as you fought the fierce battle and now to celebrate your victory! God is great! :)

P.S.

I think of you every day, because my 3-year-old niece is living with me for awhile and she watches a kid show with a perky girl in a flourescent pink wig!! Sooo you! :)

The best news I've heard all week

Great post and great insight.

Thank you! I always get a

Thank you! I always get a little anxious before I get the scan results back, so it was not only good news, it was relief from at least a month's worth of worrying! And Getaclewis, I'm so glad that pink wigs have finally made it into popular culture. The recognition is much-deserved.

Awesome

Congratulations Sarah!  that's great news.  I liked what you wrote about appreciating your own body and what it does for you.  That's so often taken for granted by people.  I am always amazed at how the human body can keep working after the abuses it endures.  but you're right!  You only get one body!  You can get some replacement parts, but you have to take care of it.  Some people take better care of thier car!  But good for you!  I'm happy to share your best day ever--it was my birthday.  And did you know?  The 19th of June is called Juneteenth day-the official day of Freedom.

Sarah, I'm a bit behind on

Sarah, I'm a bit behind on reading blogs and I'm so sorry that I missed this when you posted it.  Congratulations!!!  I am SO HAPPY for you!   I can't even begin to imagine the path that you've been on to battle cancer, but it makes me so happy to know that you are cancer-free.  You did it!

And, thank you for the reminder that we should be happy with the bodies we have.  Last night, I re-watched 'Farrah's Story' and it was even more sad this time knowing that she recently passed away.  One of the (many) things that struck me during her story was how she said she never appreciated the pre-cancer body she had and how she desperately missed it. We should spend more time being generous, appreciative and loving toward our bodies and you're right, I think the rewards will be incredible.

Congratulations again!  You just made my day!
