Uliana Gabara: International Educator

Newsweek recently named University of Richmond “Hottest in International Study” among U.S. colleges. Uliana is stoking the fire. “Study abroad is an essential part of a good 21st century education,” she says. Over half of the school’s undergraduates study abroad and, this year, over 200 international students joined the campus community. But that’s only the beginning says Uliana, the Dean and Carole M. Weinstein Chair of International Education. “We have our faculty seminar abroad, visiting international scholars, grants to develop curriculum with international content, and an international film series, and much more. It extends from the classrooms to the residence halls to the student organizations.” With Carole Weinstein’s recent $9 million grant, the university will build an International Studies Center in Fall 2010. “The Center will move the University closer to its goal of becoming an institution from which all students graduate with study abroad experience and where collaborative international teaching and research are part of daily life.”
