Marjorie Grier | Philanthropist
As Vice President of the Dominion Foundation, Marjorie generates thousand-watt smiles in Richmond and beyond. This year, the Foundation will give $20 million to worthy causes. “It connects us with our communities.” VCU’s Business and Engineering schools each received neighborly million-dollar grants, along with VirginiaUnionUniversity. A friendly half-million is headed for the ScienceMuseum and a $300,000 gift is helping VirginiaState Parks install GPS-equipped Info-Kiosks. The Boys Choir, SeniorNavigator, and the Chesapeake Bay Alliance have also benefited. “I’m always glad to see organizations work together. Instead of duplicating their efforts, they’re extending their range.” Central Virginia Foodbank’s collaboration with Meals on Wheels, for instance, is a model for all US cities. So what makes her smile? “Rebuilding Together. We used to call it Christmas in April. For one neighborhood, volunteers donate repairs for elderly or disabled homeowners,” she says. “The difference between morning and evening is truly remarkable.”
